Roughly 50% of the Lao PDR is hilly-mountainous and with an annual precipitation of up to 3000mm falling mainly between May and September many roads are prone to landslides.

The project involves the identification of cost-effective community-based methods of improving the transport infrastructure through low-cost local resource-based engineering techniques to reduce/eliminate land-slips

There will be in addition an associated training program for government personnel and the production of a slope stabilisation manual in the national language.

Outstanding programme includes:

•  Construction supervision of phase 2 works

•  Monitoring of completed works for both phases

•  Information dissemination and training:

•  Workshops

•  Delivery of guidelines, design manuals and specifications
